BMX Number Plates

BMX number plates finish your race bike and keep rider numbers clear from gate to first straight. This range fits mini, junior, and full-size BMX frames, with plain and custom-printed options for club racers and weekend riders alike. Every plate mounts using standard fork and seat-post holes, so there’s no drilling or extra hardware.

Xchange Sports stocks BMX number plates Australia-wide, sized true to frame class rather than a generic one-size guess, so your rider lines up on the gate looking sharp and ready.

Frequently Asked Questions of BMX Number Plates

BMX number plates display a rider's race number and name during competitions and club events. They also help riders personalise their bikes and stand out on the track.

Yes. Many BMX number plates can be customised with your child's name, race number and preferred colours, creating a professional and personalised race-day look.

Most BMX number plates are designed to fit a wide range of BMX bikes, but it's important to check compatibility with your bike's handlebars and frame before purchasing.

Most BMX clubs and racing organisations require riders to display an approved BMX number plate with their assigned race number during events and competitions.

Look for a durable BMX number plate that is easy to read, securely mounted and compliant with your local BMX racing requirements. Custom designs can also help your child feel more confident and excited to race.

Why Choose Our Quality Products For Your Child?

How to Choose the Right BMX Number Plate

Start by deciding whether your child needs a fun number plate for a balance bike or an official BMX racing plate. These are not automatically interchangeable. A recreational plate is designed for personalisation, while a race plate must match the rider’s category, allocated number and current event rules.

Next, check the exact bike model and mounting points. Wheel size or age alone does not confirm fit. The plate must attach securely without limiting steering, covering controls or creating a sharp or loose edge.

For sanctioned BMX racing, confirm the required background colour, number colour and number format before applying stickers or ordering a printed design.

Which Bikes Fit the Strider BMX Number Plate?

The current Xchange Sports plate is the genuine white Strider number plate. Strider specifies it for the Strider 12 Sport, Strider 12 Pro and Strider 12 Classic balance bikes.

  • Designed for: compatible Strider 12 balance bikes.
  • Not confirmed for: other balance-bike brands, scooters, larger Strider models or standard 20-inch and 24-inch BMX race bikes.
  • Material: lightweight plastic.
  • Included: number stickers from 0–9 and additional decorative Strider decals.

Check the model name on your child’s bike before ordering. If you are unsure, send Xchange Sports a clear photograph of the bike for help confirming compatibility.

Is a Strider Number Plate Legal for BMX Racing?

A plate should not be described as “race legal” without checking the rider’s category and event. The white Strider plate is ideal for personalisation, backyard races, pump-track sessions and compatible Strider events, but its white background does not automatically match every AusCycling category.

Under the 2026 AusCycling BMX Racing Technical Regulations, the BMX Mini Wheeler participation category uses a purple plate with white numbers. Other participation and competition categories use different colour combinations.

Ask the club or event organiser whether the plate, colour, numbers and bike are accepted before entering. This avoids applying stickers that must later be removed or replaced.

How to Fit a BMX Number Plate Safely

Use only the supplied or manufacturer-approved attachment method. Do not drill new holes, trim the plate or substitute hardware unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.

  1. Centre the plate. Position it so the rider number is clear from the front.
  2. Check the steering. Turn the handlebars fully in both directions and confirm the plate does not bind or catch.
  3. Protect the controls. Keep the plate and attachments away from hands, brake levers and cables.
  4. Secure loose ends. Nothing should flap, rotate or leave a sharp edge near the rider.
  5. Recheck before riding. Push and gently twist the plate to confirm it cannot move into the wheel or controls.

Australian BMX Race Number Requirements

For AusCycling events, the rider is responsible for keeping their number visible and legible. The 2026 regulations include the following requirements:

  • Maximum of three digits on a number plate.
  • Zero and double zero are not treated as valid numerals.
  • Numbers 1–8 are reserved for qualifying title holders under the stated rules.
  • Number dimensions: the regulations list 10cm height and 1.5cm width.
  • Background border: the background colour must extend at least 1cm around the number.
  • Prefix or suffix letters: these must be 50mm high when required.

Read the current AusCycling Technical Regulations and the event technical guide before finalising a competition plate.

Can You Customise the Strider Number Plate?

Yes. The genuine Strider plate includes number stickers from 0–9 plus decorative Strider decals, so children can choose a favourite number and personalise the white background.

The current product is a self-decorated plate; the listing does not offer a custom printing service for names, sponsor logos or made-to-order race graphics. Check the product options rather than assuming custom artwork is included.

For an official race plate, use only the number and colour combination assigned or permitted for the event. Organiser-supplied plates should not be altered.

Does BMX Plate Size Depend on Frame Class?

Plate fit depends on the individual product and mounting area—not a child’s age or a broad label such as Mini, Junior, Expert or Pro. Those BMX frame labels mainly describe rider fit and geometry; they do not guarantee that every plate will attach correctly.

AusCycling recognises Standard 20-inch and Cruiser categories for BMX racing, but the technical regulations focus on number visibility and category colours rather than prescribing a universal plate body size for each frame label.

Before buying, compare the product’s confirmed bike compatibility, available mounting space and attachment method. Do not assume that a plate designed for a Strider 12 will fit a 20-inch BMX race bike or 24-inch cruiser.

Will a BMX Number Plate Affect Riding?

A small lightweight plate should have little noticeable effect when it fits correctly and remains secure. The real concern is not aerodynamic drag—it is a plate that moves, rattles, blocks a cable or catches the rider’s hands.

Stop riding if the plate rotates, interferes with steering or controls, develops a sharp crack or can no longer hold its position. Correct the fit or replace the plate before the next ride.

How to Clean and Check a BMX Number Plate

  • Clean gently: wipe the plate with a soft damp cloth and avoid harsh solvents that may damage the plastic or stickers.
  • Check attachments: replace damaged manufacturer-approved fasteners and tighten the plate when needed.
  • Check visibility: replace worn or peeling numbers before a race if they are no longer clear.
  • Replace damaged plates: stop using a plate that is cracked, sharp, badly warped or unable to remain securely mounted.

Confirm compatibility before applying stickers. An installed or customised plate may no longer qualify for a change-of-mind return.
