Determining Your Childs Helmet Size
The proper helmet fit is one of the most important factors for safety and comfort. A snug, aligned fit will achieve a safe and secure ride. Below are 3 simple steps to determine the proper helmet size.
Step 1
MEASURE
Measure the circumference of your head with a tape measure - roughly 2.5cm above your eyebrows. Take several measurements to make sure you have the largest size. If you do not have a tape measure, use string or a phone charger cable and measure it against a ruler.
Step 2
WEAR YOUR HELMET
Once you have determined your helmet size, try it on. The helmet should be worn level on the head, and hot slide or move freely when you roll your head form side to side. If this is the case, you have a helmet that is too large. Extra padding may help provide a better, more snug fit.
Step 3
PROPER FIT
Be sure the front of the helmet lays just above your eyebrows and that the back of the helmet does not touch the nape of the neck. The chin strap should fit snug to where you can only insert 2 fingers. If thee skin on your forehead moves slightly, you have a good fit.

PRO TIP: If your measurements are in-between the sizes shown or you’re simply in doubt, we strongly recommend sizing up to the larger size. We have found over the years that customers do better when they choose the larger size.

Making sure you understand kids helmet sizes is clearly the most important factor when buying a kid’s bike helmet. If you buy the wrong size, nothing else matters! But there are many other features of a helmet that make it easier or harder to adjust, and that affect how comfortable it is to wear. There are also specific helmets for biking and scootering or skateboarding. So what else should you look for when choosing a bike helmet?
Helemet Size – Circumference is King!
If a bike helmet doesn’t fit your child it will not provide protection for their head in a crash! Children’s helmet sizes are either ranges that are based on the child’s head circumference or they fit specific head measurements. For instance, if a helmet can be adjusted from 48cm – 54 cm, it will fit kids with head circumferences within that range.
That said, trying to find the right size kids helmet for your child can be somewhat difficult because one-size-does-not-fit-all where heads are concerned! Some children have wide heads, others thin. Some helmets are broader, others narrower. So your child could be a month from the right age, with a head circumference that falls somewhere in the range of the size M helmet you’ve selected — but if his head is wide and the helmet shape is narrow, it won’t work.
In general, skater-style helmets are rounder all over and are a surer bet for kids with wide heads.
